When You Can’t Find Your Purpose

Posted on October 22, 2025 by Kate

Sometimes you wake up and wonder, “Why am I here?” Not in some grand spiritual sense, but just… here. Living. Existing. Doing the same things. Wondering if any of it matters. And if you’re like me—someone who doesn’t believe there’s a cosmic plan or divine purpose—it can feel especially heavy.

When you strip away the idea that some god designed your life for a reason, you’re left with this raw truth: you are here, and it’s up to you to shape what that means.

That can feel terrifying. Or freeing. Or both.

For me, naturalism means seeing life as it is: without a higher power, but full of connection. I look at trees, rivers, insects, wind—and I remember I’m part of that too. Not more. Not less. Just another form of nature moving through the world. And so are you.

Your purpose doesn’t have to be big. You’re not broken for not being ambitious, loud, or wildly successful. You don’t need to start a company or be on a stage. Maybe your purpose today is to rest. To listen. To speak softly with someone who’s struggling. To write a sentence that feels honest. To be present with your child for five real minutes.

Small things count. Being alive is a purpose.

And if you feel joyless, it’s okay. Don’t rush to fix it. Just stay curious. Ask: What do I enjoy, even a little? What makes me feel calm? Is it writing? Listening to someone? Watching clouds? That’s your compass.

There is no single path. Just life. Just now. And you.

Would love to hear what “purpose” means to you lately. You can leave a comment or message me quietly.

I’m walking this too. You’re not alone.
