The Day I Got Conned Online

Posted on December 2, 2025 by Kate

Yesterday I got properly conned. I still can’t believe it, but here we are. I’ve been avoiding my fundi after we fell out, and since then I’ve been buying clothes online. Honestly, it’s been great so far. Smooth deliveries, good quality, no drama. So when I remembered that my daughter and I don’t have decent shoes, I went straight to Facebook and found this page selling really nice ones.

The total for all the shoes was about ten thousand. I already felt a bit unsure when I asked for the till number and they told me, “Just do w pochi, dear.” And of course, they called me dear the way most online shops do. So I sent the first 3k. Later in the day I decided, let me just buy everything we need and get it over with. I added another 6k and asked how to pay, and since they’d already seen how trusting I was, this time they said, “Just send.” No pochi. Just send. And I did.

About 9k—let’s just call it 10k—gone. I sent them the pickup location I always use, Pick Up Mtaani, because I avoid home deliveries since they tend to be expensive. My daughter and I were so excited. I’d already shown her the shoes and we were both waiting like Christmas is coming.

Pick Up Mtaani usually sends a message the minute they receive a package. So I waited that whole day. Nothing. I waited the next day. Still nothing. By the third day I knew something was off, so I texted the sellers to ask for an update. Silence. I told them I hadn’t gotten any message from Mtaani. Silence. That’s when it sank in—I had been conned a full 10k.

The Facebook page is called House of Fashion & Style. The number they chatted with me from was 0756 945668 and the payment number was 0796 797265 under a Victoria Adisa. I’m putting it here for anyone who Googles them after feeling suspicious the way I should have.

This was my first time being conned online, and I’ve learned my lesson. I’m never paying before delivery again. I’m also done trying new online pages just because they look legit. I’ll stick to the ones that have never failed me.

What’s funny is that the money itself didn’t hurt me. I didn’t even sit there crying about the 10k. What actually hurt was the shoes not arriving—for me and my girl. And the craziest part? The very next day I was back online looking for another shop. Human beings, honestly… we never learn.

Anyway, that’s my little “I got conned” story for today. And because I always journal everything, this had to be written down too. Writing is therapy for me. When you put something down, you give it a beginning, a middle, and an ending. It stops swirling in your head. It becomes something you can look at and let go of. That’s why my blog has so many posts—they’re just pieces of me trying to understand my life one page at a time.

If you’ve never tried journaling, maybe give it a shot. You’ll be shocked at how much lighter you feel after pouring your thoughts out.
