Placing Your Confidence in God: A Lifelong Rescue

Posted on October 7, 2024 by Kate

2 Corinthians 1:9-10 (NLT) says: “In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.”

These verses carry such depth. Paul and his companions stopped relying on themselves and learned to rely on God alone. When they did that, God rescued them from mortal danger—He did it once, He did it twice, and the promise is that He will continue to do it. This is a reminder that God has preserved you for a reason. Think of the countless times He has rescued you, times when you could have perished but He stepped in. And the truth is, He will continue to do so as long as we place our confidence in Him.

But how do you ensure that God continues to rescue you? By depending completely on Him. Don’t rely on human beings because, as the Bible says, “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh” (Jeremiah 17:5). People are inherently flawed and limited, but when you place your confidence in God, you are trusting the One who has always been victorious.

Sometimes, we may fail God by comparing Him to man. We may feel like we’ve made the same mistakes over and over, and that maybe God, like a person, will grow tired of rescuing us. But God is not like man. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23), and He is not tired of coming through for you. As today’s verse reminds us, He will rescue you again and again when you place your confidence in Him.

So, who is your hope in? It must be in God. “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8). Trust in Him and not in man, for God is your unfailing refuge.

Have a blessed day!
