Living as Instruments of God’s Glory

Posted on December 21, 2024 by Kate

Romans 6:13 (NLT) states, “Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.”

This verse calls for deep reflection, challenging us to evaluate how we use the body God has entrusted to us. Every part of our being has the potential to either glorify God or serve sin, and we are urged to be intentional about dedicating ourselves fully to the Lord. Imagine the impact of this command on our daily lives.

Do not let your eyes become tools of lust or comparison, drawn to images or situations that pull you away from God’s will. Instead, use your eyes to see the needs of others, to read God’s Word, and to focus on His beauty in creation. Let them rest on things that inspire faith and hope. Do not let your ears be drawn to gossip, slander, or conversations that promote division. Instead, use them to listen to godly counsel, to hear the cries of those who suffer silently, and to take in messages of encouragement, truth, and grace.

Your mouth, capable of great harm or great blessing, should not be used to gossip, curse, or tear others down. Instead, let it overflow with words of encouragement, kindness, and prayer. Use your voice to share the gospel, speak truth in love, and sing praises to God. Even your nose can be used for His glory; let it guide you to smile warmly at others, spreading joy and light.

Consider your hands—are they being used for theft, harm, or selfish gain? Or are they building up, giving generously, and serving others? Use your hands to comfort, create, and extend compassion, reflecting the hands of Christ, who reached out to heal and bless. Your feet, too, can either lead you into places of sin or take you on the path of righteousness. Let them guide you to spread the gospel, visit the sick, and stand firmly in faith.

Your heart is the center of your emotions and motivations. Do not let it be a storehouse for bitterness, jealousy, or anger. Instead, allow it to overflow with love, joy, peace, and forgiveness, mirroring the heart of Christ. Avoid using your body to scatter relationships, destroy trust, or lead others into sin. Choose instead to honor God in how you dress, how you speak, and how you carry yourself, reflecting modesty, purity, and dignity.

The beauty of this verse lies in its reminder of our transformation. We were once dead in sin, slaves to our old ways, but now we have been given new life in Christ. This new life is an invitation to live differently—to live intentionally, fully devoted to God. Every part of our body can become a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him, as we allow His Spirit to work through us.

Think about how powerful this calling is. What if every action we took, every word we spoke, and every thought we entertained was aligned with God’s will? How much more peace, joy, and purpose would fill our lives? Living for God means embracing a lifestyle of worship, where every moment is an opportunity to glorify Him.

The verse also reminds us that we can transform even the smallest, seemingly insignificant parts of our lives into acts of worship. When we watch over what we see, hear, say, and do, we allow our entire being to reflect God’s light to the world. When we speak kindness instead of anger, when we listen to others’ burdens rather than spreading gossip, when we give instead of take, and when we encourage instead of criticize, we glorify God in ways that change us and bless others.

Let this be a daily reminder to give yourself completely to God. Use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right, trusting that this will not only glorify God but also bring fulfillment to your life. You are no longer who you were; in Christ, you are made new. Let this newness shine through every action, thought, and intention.

Have a beautiful day. 🖤
