Let Joy Teach You Too

Posted on April 19, 2025 by Kate

Not every lesson has to come through pain. Joy can be a teacher too.

It took me a long time to realize this. That I didn’t always have to be cracked open by grief or heartbreak to grow. That I didn’t need to collapse, crawl, or break into pieces in order to become wise. Somewhere along the way, we started to believe that only pain could shape us. That suffering was the only path to depth. That every transformation had to come with tears.

But joy—quiet, ordinary, radiant joy—can be just as powerful.

Joy can teach you presence. When you’re laughing so hard your stomach hurts or holding someone you love under a warm blanket, joy teaches you to stay. To be here. To stop chasing and start receiving. It reminds you that life is not just about surviving storms, but also about dancing in soft sunlight and letting yourself belong to beautiful, fleeting moments.

Joy can also teach you boundaries. Because once you’ve tasted ease, you begin to protect your peace. You say no to chaos, to drama, to people who only show up when you’re broken. You start choosing environments and rhythms that make your nervous system feel safe.

Joy teaches gratitude, not in the “be thankful no matter what” kind of way—but in the “this moment is enough” kind of way. It brings you back to yourself. It anchors you. And sometimes, the lesson joy teaches is that you are allowed to feel good. That your healing doesn’t always need to be carved out of darkness. That you can learn, grow, and become softer by allowing the light in too.

You’ve already learned enough from pain.

Let joy teach you the rest.
