Fat Is Not a Flaw

Posted on July 5, 2025 by Kate

Fat isn’t a mistake or a problem to fix. It’s not a punishment or a failure. It’s simply one of the many ways that bodies exist—naturally, biologically, and beautifully.

Some bodies are rounder. Softer. Thicker. That doesn’t make them less worthy or less capable of joy, love, movement, intelligence, or style. It just means they’re one variation of what nature has always made—diverse, adaptive, and real.

When I stopped seeing fat as something “wrong,” I started to breathe again. I started to walk through the world without that heavy shadow of shame. I began to see my body as a home, not a project. A living, breathing expression of genetics, experience, nourishment, and survival.

This body has carried me through grief, love, parenting, career changes, stress, and healing. And the fat on it? That’s part of the story. It’s not something I need to erase. It’s not a symbol of weakness. It’s just… me. One human in a body that works hard to live in this world.

Nature doesn’t create flaws. It creates variety. And I get to exist fully, without apology, right in the body I have today.
