Even if it’s quiet, even if it’s slow—your capacity to love is still alive.

Posted on July 26, 2026 by Kate

Sometimes after heartbreak or long seasons of loneliness, it can feel like love has left us. Like it packed its bags and went somewhere far away, and we’re just… waiting for it to return. The warmth we used to feel might be quieter now. Maybe it’s a flicker instead of a fire. Maybe we second-guess it. Maybe we wonder if we’ll ever be able to love again the way we once did—freely, fully, without flinching.

But here’s the thing: just because love looks different now doesn’t mean it’s gone. Love doesn’t have to be loud or fast to be real. Sometimes it’s in the gentleness we offer ourselves on a hard day. Sometimes it’s in the soft way we start trusting again, or how we reach out to someone even when it scares us. It’s in the way we hold space for a child’s feelings. It’s in how we honour our own truth, even when no one else sees it.

Your capacity to love isn’t measured by speed or volume. It’s measured by presence. And presence can be quiet. It can take its time. Healing teaches us that love doesn’t always roar back—it returns in whispers, in small moments of openness, in little glimmers of hope.

So if your heart is moving slowly, don’t rush it. If it feels quiet, don’t assume it’s empty. You haven’t lost your capacity to love. You’re just learning to carry it differently now. Gently. Honestly. On your own terms. And that’s still love—maybe the most grounded kind there is.
